Quand Le Jazz est
Quand Le Jazz est La
La Java s'en
La Java s'en va
I' y de l'orage dans l'air
Il y a de l'eau dans le
Gaz entre Le Jazz et La Java

The class cost a buck; I show up with two friends - angie who can sing the french alphabet like a children's song and has forgotten her high school french because of lack of exercise and Kathy, a brit ex-pat mother of two boys whose husband is only speaking french to the boys..so she too has a french partner..the teacher is a half hour late so we sit on the balcony and gossip as the other students arrive..a Taiwanese guy for whom english is a second language and french is to be his third; an Italian trying to figure out her pronunciation and wants to know how to distinguish cousine from cuisine (good luck), and retired Israeli whose carrying dictionaries, a Brazilian soccer enthusiast who is chosen to pick a topic to start up the conversation..world cup looms ahead and the class begins..

the teacher amira is from morocco and finally arrives - and deftly manages to make the session interesting for the varying skill levels. the Taiwanese guy and I barely know the alphabet..we walk out knowing how to tell time and refer to our in-laws correctly..supplied with 4 new verbs - I head home and test out my skills on Laurence - who promptly tells me that my method for telling time is grammatically incorrect and has me spelling english words out loud in the french alphabet for practice..
